Going out in La Baule

At the beginning of the 20th century, La Baule attracted the wealth holder of Nantes and Paris, who built their second homes there. The Paris smart set  gets a move on there soon, in the two prestigious hotels built in the 1920s, L'Hermitage and Castel Marie-Louise, as well as at the Casino. Mistinguett, who arrives there by seaplane, Joséphine Baker, and theater author Sacha Guitry. The golf course and the equestrian center springs up, while one begins to organize great regattas and special stage of a rally. Tino Rossi and Charlie Chaplin become, in turn, faithful. In the second half of the 20th century, even if the large residences replaced little by little the villas on the waterfront, the enthusiasm did not falter: Yves Montand, Edith Piaf, Juliette Gréco, Charles Trénet, as well as Claude François, Johnny Hallyday and Sylvie Vartan. Rumour has it that the stars appreciate living in luxury and the discretion of the Baulois. The surrounding towns are not outdone: Jacques Prévert had a particular attachment to Le Pornichet, whom he discovered as a child: "The sea, I ran after it, it was running after me," he writes. Both of us did what she wanted. It was like fairy tales: it changed people. As soon as they arrived, they had lost the same color and the same way of speaking. They were refurbished, they looked like others. Even today, the bay continues to attract celebrities: Gérard Lanvin, Claude Chabrol are regular visitors. Dany Boon, Jane Birkin, Pierre Arditi, Marlene Jobert and Eva Green are the star Hotels. Marion Cotillard is said to have fallen under the spell of the city, accompanying her mate, Guillaume Canet, to an equestrian competition. Catherine Deneuve would also appreciate this seaside resort with an outdated charm, which inspired so many directors.
